Ageing and Sexuality - Still a Taboo in Lifelong Learning Programmes?

We don't discuss sexuality enough when considering the lives of older adults. It's easy to assume that ageing brings dramatic changes and that sexuality is not a topic that concerns older adults to any great degree. But while we still see many casual advertisements and media stories equating sexuality only with the young, there has been a paradigm shift in my lifetime toward a greater understanding that sexuality is an important part of life, throughout one’s lifetime.

However, if we look into the adult education sector, we must realise that this dvelopment has scarcely reached the educational world, and hardly the European educational programmes. Browsing through the compendia of Lifelong Learning projects, there is a colourful multitude of projects that have developed teaching and learning materials for seniors, but none of them refers to the fact that health care professionals cannot find information to learn more about aging and sexuality.

A New Initiave Has Been Launched!

A group of European educational and medical experts, under participation of E-C-C, has prepared an Erasmus Plus project to develop health care promotion materials focussing on intimacy and sexuality in the third age.
