Why Basic Skills?

 

Without good communication, literacy and mathematical skills, individuals are severly disadvantaged throughout their lives as learners, in the workplace and as parents, consumers and citizens.

 

According to the definitions from the UK organisations “Skills for Life”, elements of basic skills include the following competences:

  • Writing
  • Reading
  • Speaking
  • Listening and understanding
  • Working with numbers
  • Working with measures and formulas
  • ICT skills
  • and key competences like communication, problem solving, working with others and the competence to learn how to learn.
