How can the present status of coaching in Austria be represented regarding the debate of individualisation?

 

Aim of this work was to present a critical point of view on the concept of individualisation based on Ulrich Beck’s hypotheses and coaching on the other hand. The empirical analysis was to examine consequences of individualisation as well as the grown necessity of coaching in different stages of life.

 

How can the present status of coaching in Austria be represented regarding the debate of individualisation? Coaching as a professional external assistance was established in the past decade. Besides the popularity of the word itself it is indefinite how coaching developed its current status and how its needs should be argued. This work is a contribution to eliminate ambiguities and a further part to a possible scientific definition. Individualisation characterised by a progressive decline in values and social standards, which fort he most part can be found in the western industrialized countries, can cause sense or identity crisis that are accompanied with a loss of vital security. One has to find new meanings to their lives. The vast amount of possibilities gives liberty and independence to the individuals on the first sight, however this can lead to over challenging due to isolation. This causes an increasing demand on external support e.g. coaching.

 

Target group This work addresses to scientists who are specialised in individualisation and its consequences, to organisations or individuals how offer coaching, to students who study coaching and simply to people who want to take up coaching.
